Canada is considering a plan to provide free contraceptives to all nine million women of reproductive age in the country. And plans to give all Canadians access to free diabetes medication.

Under the leadership of Finance Minister Christie Freeland, women will be able to choose different methods of contraception, including birth control pills, IUDs and others, regardless of of their income, according to the website of the Government of Canada.

Canada's Deputy Minister of Health, Yaara Sachs, said that this step will allow women to have the freedom to plan their future and choose what when they want to start a family without having to choose between health and paying the bills.

The authorities also calculated the cost of contraceptives for each patient per year. The estimated cost of the birth control pill is $222 per person, and $370 for IUDs.

The initiative is planned to be part of Canada's upcoming 2024 budget, which will be submitted to the parliament on April 16.
