They want changes in confession. A special petition has already been submitted to the Sejm. It is about children

As reported by the “Goniec” portal, a special petition has been submitted to the Sejm, the originators of which are seeking changes in the Catholic Church. The petition concerns a ban on children's confession. The document has already been submitted to the committee, which is to decide on the future of the idea. Find out the details!

Confession only for adults – petition already in the Sejm

One of the most important sacraments in the Catholic Church is the sacrament of penance. It is the path to receiving absolution. Confession is controversial and many people openly say that the sacrament of penance should be abandoned in the case of children. A special petition on this matter has been signed by 12 thousand people. The document has already been submitted to the Sejm.

The author of the aforementioned petition is Rafał Betlejewski, a performer and author of books, famous for his criticism of many elements of the functioning of the Catholic Church. He shared the idea for the petition in 2022.

“Confession is a form of psychological violence. It is an interference in the intimate world of a child conducted with the authority of God,” he wrote on social media at the time.

Traumatyczne memories

There is no shortage of posts on the web in which Internet users emphasize that confession was a difficult, dramatic, and often traumatic experience for them. Betlejewski himself writes about this, for whom confession was associated with “humiliation and fear”.

The petition states that no adult should interrogate a child “alone without the supervision of guardians and psychologists”. The authors of the document emphasize that confessors are celibate men who do not have “psychological training”.

Robert Biedroń came up with a similar idea some time ago. The Left politician in an interview with “Fakt” indicated that there is no shortage of psychologists' voices that children's confession “may have signs of psychological violence”. On social media, the MEP stated that believers are forced to confess, which he considered “absurd”. He also added that “children's confession should be banned.”
