For the first time, Ukraine demonstrated modernized Leopard 1A5V tanks, which were part of the 5th separate tank brigade. Leopard 1A5V tanks have been reinforced with additional armor and protective shields to counter the threat of enemy drones, especially FPV-type drones, which are actively used by Russian forces. To increase the level of protection, blocks of dynamic protection (ERA) were used, which cover the frontal projection, the tower and the sides of the tank.

Special attention was paid to vulnerable places, such as the connection of the tower with the body, which received additional protection modules.

One of the key features was the installation of mesh screens designed to reduce the vulnerability of the machine to drone attacks, which increases the chances of survival of the crew in combat conditions.

At the same time, the Leopard 1A5V retained its outstanding characteristics: a maximum speed of up to 70 km/h and the accuracy of fire at a distance of up to 4 kilometers.

In this regard Defense Express reviewers noted that such a range is provided by the EMES-18 sight, which is superior to Russian counterparts on T-72 tanks. In addition, the firepower of the German tank was mentioned, which is capable of penetrating the frontal projection of the T-72, T-80 and T-90 tanks of the Russians with a subcaliber projectile. reverse gear, but also the ability to accelerate in a matter of seconds in order to enter or, conversely, leave the battlefield,” — summed up Ukrainian experts.
