These five hidden functions slow down the phone and “eat” the charge

Modern smartphones impress with their functionality, but some options can negatively affect the speed of the device and the duration of operation on one charge. Disabling some functions will speed up and optimize the phone's operation.

These five key settings are named by the site itechua. It is important to review active features regularly and enable them only when you really need them.

Geolocation (GPS)

Active GPS allows apps to constantly monitor your location, which has two serious drawbacks: significant power consumption and potential privacy threats. According to recent studies, enabled GPS can reduce the operating time of a smartphone on a single charge by 13-20%. The optimal solution would be to activate this function only for specific tasks, for example, when using maps or a navigator.

Bluetooth

Always-on Bluetooth not only consumes additional energy, but also creates potential threats to the security of the device due to the possibility of unauthorized access. Experts have estimated that the operation of this module during the day can reduce the battery charge by 5-10%. It is recommended to activate Bluetooth only for direct use of wireless devices.

Wi-Fi

The function of automatically connecting to available Wi-Fi networks not only wastes energy constantly searching for a signal, but can also pose a security threat by connecting to potentially dangerous access points. Turning off Wi-Fi when not in use can save up to 10% of battery power every day.

Data synchronization

Automatic synchronization with cloud services actively consumes mobile traffic and battery power. Switching to manual synchronization mode or schedule settings will save 5 to 15% of battery power.

Automatic screen brightness

Despite the convenience of automatically adjusting the display brightness, this function does not always accurately determine the optimal illumination level. Self-adjusting the brightness can extend the autonomy of the device by 5-10%.
