At the plant of the largest British arms manufacturer BAE Systems, what in the county of Monmouthshire in south Wales, an explosion occurred on the morning of April 17, reports the BBC.
According to the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the explosion at the BAE Systems plant was recorded at 10:49 UK time. Rescuers and doctors were called to the scene, but there were no casualties.
BAE Systems said it had stepped up safety protocols at the plant after the explosion and assured that there was no risk to residents of surrounding communities.
"The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation", – added a company representative.
The BAE Systems plant where the explosion occurred was built during World War II to meet the needs of the fleet. It was initially state-owned but was privatized in the 1980s.
Last year, BAE Systems began building facilities there to produce ammunition, mortars, medium- and large-caliber artillery shells and tank shells.
