A woman stole a friend's phone and card and spent more than UAH 60,000

The police of the Yuzhne community reported suspicion to a 34-year-old woman who stole her friend's phone and bank card, withdrawing 65 thousand 408 hryvnias from the account. The incident took place at the beginning of August this year in one of the villages of the community.

This was reported on the website of the Police Department of Odesa.

According to the police report, the incident began during a feast, when a 63-year-old man, the owner of the house, invited guests to his home. During the dinner, he gave his bank card with a pin code to the child of one of the attendees so that she could buy the necessary products in the store. Together with the girl, the friend of the owner, a 34-year-old resident of the community, went to the store.

In the store, the woman spied the pin code for the card, and already at home she stole the card itself and the mobile phone so that the owner could not see the message about the withdrawal of funds from the account. During the next two days, the suspect paid with a card in various stores and withdrew cash, in total misappropriating more than 65 thousand hryvnias.

After the owner of the house discovered the disappearance of his property, he contacted the police. The police quickly established the identity of the perpetrator and searched for her in a nearby village, where she was hiding with a friend. Stolen things were seized from the suspect.

Investigators collected evidence confirming the woman's illegal actions and informed her of the suspicion under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – theft committed under martial law, as well as under Part 1 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code – theft of official documents for selfish reasons.

Currently, the issue of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved. She faces up to eight years in prison for the crime she committed. It is known that the woman already has a criminal record for theft, for which she was previously sentenced to five years in prison with a probationary period of one year.

The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers continue to collect all the necessary materials to complete the case.
