Emmy Award – American Television Awards. It is represented by three organizations: the American Television Academy, the American National Television Academy and the International Television Academy.
The first statuette was presented on January 25, 1949 at the Hollywood Sports Club. The name “Emmy” comes from the word “immy” – that was the name of the cathode ray tube in the first television cameras. The atom held by the woman symbolizes television as science, and the wings behind her represent television as art.
