As we saw a few months ago, the new fantasy RPG from the creators of the The Elder Scrolls license had a funding campaign that ended at the end of June and promises us a good number of great things. Indeed, The Wayward Realms will allow us to play no less than 8 different races that we are looking at today.
so many playable races that you won't know where to start
This new fantasy RPG managed to be funded at over 140% during its Kickstarter campaign and when we see the first visuals of the game, it promises to be grandiose and will be reminiscent of certain environments from the Tamriel universe, designed by the same creators 30 years earlier.Between procedurally generated dungeons and cities, a management of light and materials that gives a most pleasant atmosphere to the eye and a great influence on the course of the history of the Archipelago through quests galore, this is where a whole RPG that will take us to the depths of a tangible universe, for a total immersion as a player.
In addition to having access to spell creation, weapon forging and a good number of crafts, we must first realize that for the creation of our character, we will have the choice between 8 different races.
- Human: it is probably not necessary to describe what a human is, even in a fantasy universe and if this choice may seem like a default choice, it remains that it is the one with which we can most easily identify and this can greatly affect the immersion within the universe.
- Elf: the superior being par excellence and whose contemporary representation has been largely defined by the father of modern fantasy, we are of course talking about J.R.R. Tolkien. Choosing an elf is still having a character who has class.
- Dwarf: this small creature has been present for a long time in Norse mythology. Small, very strong and possessing great dexterity, The dwarf is a wise choice for those who love crafting, while knowing how to wield an ax and of course drink beer.
- Goblin: If we refer to the goblin of medieval folklore, it could well be that we have here a being with night vision abilities, which is very handy for exploring dungeons and caves, but also talents with advanced technologies, which can make the goblin a very good choice for an assassin or thief for example.
- Orc: very bestial, the orc has great physical strength which gives him a clear advantage and his cult for fighting and war make him the most effective choice, if you like to play by charging into the crowd and crushing the skulls of your enemies with blows of a mace.
- Ogre: if the orc is a brute, what about the ogre! A true force of nature with a gigantic size, his taste for fresh flesh and blood make him a real enemy slaughterer, but who will not necessarily go everywhere. Choosing an orc means ensuring that you kill your opponents with your bare hands without having to use a weapon.
- Cambion: if the creators of The Wayward Realms were inspired by the universe of Dungeons and Dragons, the cambion would seem to be a fearsome half-human, half-demon creature. With a strong physical resistance and predispositions to black and demonic magic, its combat abilities are formidable and this half-demon can even charm its enemies. The choice of a cambion can be very interesting to play while not being simple, due to its appearance.
- Fairy: creature whose iteration which is illustrated below seems to be large (it's not Tinker Bell!), the fairy is characterized by agility ; extraordinary and whose mastery of magic makes her a versatile being. If we choose a fairy as a character, this will mainly give fights to the enemy. distance, but also immense possibilities in terms of magic and witchcraft.
So here we have much more interesting and original proposals than what we had already seen in video game RPGs. Proposing a cambion, a goblin, a fairy, or an ogre as a playable character can offer gameplay and immersion opportunities that will bring a breath of fresh air to these fantasy games.
Tell us in the comments section which race you would like to play when The Wayward Realms is released and in the meantime, don't miss out on discovering the size of the gigantic map of this universe.
