The USA delivered 14 Abrams tanks to the NATO base in Poland

A batch of US armored vehicles was delivered to the new NATO military base in Poland.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by the publication Stars and Stripes.

“Fourteen M1 Abrams main battle tanks and one M88 armored recovery vehicle were transported by rail on Thursday to the Powidza base,” the statement said.

Armored vehicles are transferred in case of “Russian aggression on NATO's eastern flank.

At this base, located 400 km west of the Ukrainian border, will soon host 85 battle tanks, 190 armored combat vehicles, including the M2 Bradley, and 35 artillery installations.

As noted, this facility, which is served by the 405th Army Field Support Brigade, is the most significant and single NATO infrastructure project in the last three decades. It will be fully operational next year.

In 2020, work began on the base near the city of Powidz, which cost more than $360 million, and was only recently completed.&nbsp ;

The base has a 650,000-square-foot warehouse, vehicle maintenance and support facilities, and a 58,000-square-foot ammunition storage area.

The facility is fully operational, expected to start in 2025. Col. Ernest Lane II noted the base's “strategic location,” opening up “numerous avenues of approach and disembarkation.” can be used in those cases when “the command needs additional combat power for emergency operations, exercises or training.” It is noted that this object makes it possible to shorten the deployment time from 60 days to a week, as well as to equip an armored brigade within 48 hours.

As reported by Ukrinform, in February NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the defense ministers of NATO countries have decided to create a training center in Poland to train and improve the skills of the Ukrainian military and exchange experience with military personnel of NATO countries.
