The US and Germany do not want to see Ukraine in NATO, - Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron said that among NATO allies, Germany and the United States are the ones most opposed to Ukraine joining the Alliance.

He said this ahead of the 75th NATO summit, German dpa reports.

According to Macron, the US and Germany are putting up “strong resistance” invitation of Ukraine to NATO.

In addition, the French president believes that the NATO summit on July 9-11 will have the same “scenario” as last year's summit in Vilnius, when Ukraine did not receive an invitation.

“The Ukrainians were very irritated when they concluded that the door was open, but not that much. And I think the scenario of the Washington summit is the same,” Macron said.

Recall that earlier US President Joe Biden said that Ukraine does not necessarily have to join NATO, and peace will come when it is possible to ensure that Russia never occupies Ukraine.

The NATO summit will be held in Washington from July 9 to 11. The New York Times, citing unnamed NATO officials, wrote that Ukraine would not hear the official invitation it desired, but that member states wanted to demonstrate in another way that they support Kiev “in the long term.”

In particular, according to media reports, NATO members agreed on annual funding for Ukraine in the amount of 40 billion euros. And US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Ukraine would hear new announcements about air defense.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg outlined three key topics that will be discussed at the Washington summit: deterrence and defense, support for Ukraine, and global partnership.
