The US will test an intercontinental ballistic missile right after the election

The US will test a hypersonic nuclear missile the night after the presidential election. The launch will take place from the Vandenberg military base in California.

According to the US military command, the uncharged intercontinental ballistic missile Minuteman III will be launched between 11:01 p.m. and 5:01 a.m. PT.

Military officials stressed that this was a routine test that had been planned for several years. The purpose of the test is to demonstrate the readiness of the US nuclear forces and to strengthen confidence in the country's nuclear deterrent amid growing fears about the possibility of World War III.

During the test, the missile will fly 4,200 miles from the base to Kwajalein Atoll, a small island in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean. The flight will last about 22 minutes.

The missile is capable of speeds of more than 15,000 miles per hour, allowing it to reach any target in the world within 30 minutes of launch. For comparison, the distance from California to Moscow is about 5,900 miles, and to Beijing – approximately 6,000 miles.
