The US removed Cuba from the list of countries “not fully cooperating” in the fight against terrorism

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken removed Cuba from a list of countries that the State Department determines are not fully cooperating in the fight against violent groups.

The State Department said in a statement that Blinken had concluded that Cuban and American law enforcement agencies are again working together in counterterrorism and other areas, reports  Associated Press.

The State Department has added Cuba to its list of “not fully cooperating countries.” in 2022.

Then the Foreign Ministry stated that Cuba refused to cooperate with Colombia on the issue of extradition of members of the National Liberation Army group.

Later, however, Colombia withdrew the arrest warrants these people.

"Moreover, the United States and Cuba resumed cooperation in 2023, including in the field of combating terrorism", – stated the State Department.

In accordance with US arms export laws, the State Department maintains a list of countries that are not considered to be fully cooperating in the fight against terrorism.

Following the exclusion of Cuba from the North Korea, Syria, Iran and Venezuela remain on the list.
