The President of the United States, Joe Biden, condemned this Friday during a call with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the “horrendous terrorist attack” outside a synagogue in East Jerusalem, in which a Palestinian killed seven people.

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, also strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Jerusalem and highlighted as “particularly hateful” that this attack targeted a place of worship and “in the same day that Holocaust Remembrance Day is commemorated”.

He added that “there is never an excuse for terrorist attacks: everyone must be condemned with clarity and rejected”, according to a statement issued a few hours after the attack was known.

Meanwhile, the European Union through the block's Neighborhood and Expansion commissioner, Oliver Varhelyi, assured that “There is no explanation for “terrorism” and he conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.

“There can be no explanation for terrorism. My deepest condolences to the families. We are with Israel”, the European commissioner reiterated in his letter.

The armed attack occurred in the vicinity of a synagogue in Neve Yaakov, in East Jerusalem. The Palestinian fired from a car at a building used as a Jewish temple, killing at least seven people and wounding several more.

Afterward, the suspect fled towards the Palestinian neighborhood of Beit Hanina, where he was neutralized by Israeli Police officers as he tried to flee the scene on foot.

Israeli media The Jerusalem Post, The Times of Israel and Kan said the attacker was identified as Alkam Khairi. He was 21 years old and had no history of crimes related to terrorism.
