The US has expanded restrictions on the export of advanced chips to China

The United States government has tightened controls on exports of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and equipment for their manufacture to China.

As noted, Washington, for reasons of national security, expanded the restrictions to prevent China from obtaining the most advanced semiconductors that can be used for military purposes.

The United States has revised rules published last October aimed at halting shipments to China of the most advanced AI chips developed by Nvidia and other American technology companies. It is clarified, for example, that restrictions on the supply of chips to China now also apply to laptops that contain such chips.

The rules will come into force on April 4.

The US Department of Commerce, which is responsible for export controls, announced that it plans to renew restrictions on the supply of advanced technologies to China in the future.

Beijing, on the other hand, harshly criticizes the restrictive policy of the US administration, stating that it is attempting to block China's technology and hinder its development.

“Such steps by the United States seriously harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, undermine international trade rules, and destabilize global industrial and supply chains,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a briefing on Friday.

The diplomat noted that China strongly opposes such steps by the US and calls for an end to unilateral sanctions against Chinese companies.
