The US Department of Justice asked Congress to legalize the transfer of seized assets of the Russian Federation to Ukraine

The head of the US Department of Justice working group on the application of sanctions against the Russian Federation, Andrew Adams, said that the Department is asking Congress to legalize the transfer of seized Russian assets to Ukraine. He said this in the banking committee of the US Senate, reports CNN.

Adams notes that such a proposal could allow the ministries of justice, finance and state "to work together to direct funds confiscated by the government United States”, to compensate for the damage caused to the during the war.

According to him, this initiative requires amendments to  "numerous regulations governing the use of confiscated funds".

Previously, BAGNET reported that Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Elizabeth Rosenberg reported that the States are discussing with Ukraine and allies the issue of using the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to support Ukrainians in case of their confiscation.
