The US created a replacement for the Stinger: what is known about the new missile

Today, the AUSA military exhibition opens in Arlington (Virginia), one of the novelties of which will be a new anti-aircraft missile from the Lockheed Martin company. This is reported by Janes.

We are talking about the Next Generation Short Range Interceptor (NGSRI) project, which the US Army initiated last year to create a replacement for the Stinger. Lockheed Martin's competitor is another defense giant – the company Raytheon.

Western journalists found out that the new missile has already been tested in the troops this year. Flight tests are expected in 2025.

It was also reported that the entire project should be completed by 2026, and small-scale production of the rocket is planned to begin in 2026-2027.

Among the requirements for new weapons is the ability to launch from existing launchers. At the same time, compared to the conventional Stinger missile, the promising missile should have higher speed, better resistance to interference and more effectively hit drones.

It is also known that next-generation launchers will be created for the new development, which should use “modern digital technologies”. “‎ equipped with an infrared homing head. It is designed to defeat helicopters, as well as low-flying planes.

The United States is actively supplying such complexes to Ukraine. Even at the beginning of the full-scale war, they were effectively used to destroy the helicopters of the Russians.

It was also reported that the USA will create an anti-aircraft gun that will be able to use projectiles for the raycotron. This is an anti-aircraft gun made on the basis of a 155-mm howitzers Thanks to this, the Americans will be able to get a cheap air defense system that will effectively fight, in particular, UAVs and cruise missiles.
