The unusual sound in AirPods Pro turned out to be part of optimizing their performance

Since the beginning of autumn, owners of AirPods Pro 2 began to notice an unusual sound that is not typical for this model of headphones. This sound is not associated with notifications about charging or finding the device. It is a self-diagnostic function that Apple did not immediately warn users about.

What else is known

It comes directly from the headphones and can vary in tone and duration. As Apple explained, this sound is part of a self-diagnostic feature that helps optimize the performance of the headphones.

The cause of this sound remained a mystery until mid-November, when Apple revealed it on its help page. It turns out that with the new firmware, the AirPods Pro 2 began to conduct self-diagnostics.

Now the headphones not only emit a high-frequency signal, but also analyze it using their microphones. This allows them to work optimally. Despite the unusual sound, the AirPods Pro 2 continue to work properly.
