A joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, the United Launch Alliance, expects to completely end the use of Atlas-5 launch vehicles by the middle of the new decade. Together with the shutdown of Atlases, the company will also abandon the RD-180 engines manufactured by the Russian concern Energomash, which were installed on them.

According to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, referring to the statement of the press service officer of the United Launch Alliance Julia Arnold, the final decommissioning of Atlas-5 is planned until 2025. “Our current plan is to completely decommission the Atlas-5 family of launch vehicles by the mid-1920s,” she said.
At the same time, Arnold added that, in direct dependence on the demand from customers who use the company's rocket power for various space missions, the specified timeframes may be revised.
