The United States said it is closely monitoring military exercises that the Russian Navy is conducting in the Atlantic. a Russian military frigate and a nuclear submarine conducted maneuvers in the Atlantic Ocean on their way to Cuba, as previously reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, Reuters reports.

During the exercises, the submarine "Kazan" and the frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” launched high-precision missiles at mock enemy targets from a distance of more than 600 km (370 miles), the statement said.

In recent days, "Admiral Gorshkov" also conducted training to repel an air attack, the ministry noted.

The above vessels are part of a group that is scheduled to arrive in Cuba on Wednesday, June 12. It consists of four warships.

Cuba said last week that such maneuvers are standard practice for naval units of countries friendly to Havana and that the ships participating in the maneuvers do not carry nuclear weapons and do not pose a threat to region.

The United States does not consider the move a threat, but the U.S. Navy will monitor the exercises, an administration official told reporters last week.
