"Anthology of Ukrainian lullabies"/Social Culture
Ukrainian poet, translator and musician Ella Yevtushenko created the project “Anthology of Ukrainian lullabies”, which included 18 authentic lullabies in the author's arrangement.
The project was released on the YouTube channel “Lullabies for Lavrin”, which the writer founded after the birth of her son. The author of the project told Suspilne Kultura about this.
“Anthology” is primarily aimed at young parents, grandparents, who are looking for Ukrainian content for children, as well as anyone interested in Ukrainian folklore The writer founded her project after the birth of her son.
This project is especially dear to me, because, starting with a personal interest, it grew into something much bigger – a search for roots, digging deep. And it fascinates me that in the process of this research I discovered that all Ukrainian lullabies have many common plots and common melodies. And in my opinion, this is also important. And of course, I am pleased to be able to share these treasures with other Ukrainians, Yevtushenko noted.
As the writer emphasizes, all the cradles in the project come from different parts of Ukraine, even from several regions of neighboring countries (Podlasia and Voronezh region). They are different in mood: cheerful, slow and meditative, sad and completely “adult”.

Among them is the Cossack lullaby “Kotu, kotu, kotusyu“, recorded in Eastern Slobozhanshchyna, which tells about a wounded Cossack with the hope of his return. Yevtushenko is particularly touched by this song, and she dedicates it to Ukrainian defenders.
Honestly, every time I hear this record, I want to dedicate this lullaby to all of our defenders, and to those who are left somewhere in the grass, and to those who will surely saddle up and run to their Tar Paw. , Yevtushenko stressed.
Also, each video in the project is accompanied by subtitles in Ukrainian, English and French, and the illustrations were created by the poet and designer Oksana Gadzhii.
