Mykolaiv has been one of the Ukrainian regions that has suffered the most attacks by Russian troops in their attempt to control the entire southern fringe of Ukrainian territory.

Its capital is located just 100 kilometers northeast of Kherson, also the capital of the region of the same name and which returned to Ukrainian hands last weekend.

The Russian Army decided to withdraw from the area and group its forces on the other side of the Dnieper River in order, as explained by the Kremlin, to reorganize its forces and modify its strategy.
