Recently, at the Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg, the Ukrainian sci-fi film “You – Cosmos” directed by Pavel Ostrikov received its first international awards.

It was reported in the press service of State Cinema.

The film received the main award of the festival – Golden Octopus, as well as the Silver Melies award, which paves the way for the competition for the most prestigious award of European genre cinema – Golden Melies.

Congratulations to the creative team on the victory and we wish you new achievements! We are proud that Ukrainian cinema continues to conquer world film festivals, Derzhkino adds.

The world premiere of Pavel Ostrikov's debut film took place earlier as part of the Discovery program at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In 2020, the film project became one of the winners of the 14th competitive selection of State Cinema.

This film was created against everything: from the scope of the idea to the challenges of today. It seemed completely unrealistic to create a real Ukrainian Sci-Fi with a small budget. All production laboratories told me about it. But we persevered towards it and created the impossible, said the tape's producer, military serviceman Volodymyr Yatsenko.

“You are Cosmos” is a sci-fi tragicomedy. According to the plot, Ukrainian truck driver Andrii remains the only survivor in the universe after the Earth's explosion. The French scientist Catherine establishes contact with him, and they decide to fly to meet each other, despite the huge distance.

The main role was played by Voladymyr Kravchuk, now a soldier of the Armed Forces, and his partner became Maksym the robot, voiced by Leonid Popadko, also a military man. The tape was created with the support of the State Film Agency, the company ForeFilms, a co-production of Ukraine, Belgium.

The tape will be released in Ukrainian cinemas in the spring of 2025 year.
