The Turkish manufacturer of armored vehicles is opening a new factory in Great Britain: it will produce protected tanks

Specialized defense equipment manufacturer Nurol Makina UK (NMS UK), a subsidiary of Turkish wheeled armored vehicle manufacturer Nurol Makina, has announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility at Tachbrook Park, Leamington Spa.

The business will focus on the production of protected patrol vehicles for the UK defense industry and international markets. The announcement was made at DVD2024, the biennial defense industry exhibition in Bedfordshire on September 18-19.

The new 7.9 acre site in Warwickshire will create up to 150 highly skilled jobs over the next three years. NMS UK will recruit across a range of roles including engineering, factory management, training and after sales support, with the facility expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. The company's investment underlines its commitment to supporting the sustainability of the UK defense industry's supply chain.

The local authority welcomed the investment. Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said:

"This investment by NMS shows why our region continues to be the heart of the UK's advanced manufacturing and exports. It will also mean 150 highly skilled jobs for local people.

Nurol Makina also showcased two key machines:

• 18-ton Ejder Yalcin;
• 14-tonne NMS-L.

Ejder Yalcin can carry a crew of two plus seven soldiers, provides protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IED) up to NATO level 4a/2b STANAG. The car has a V-shaped body and wall seats with impact protection for added safety. Meanwhile, the lighter NMS-L is a helicopter version of Nurol Makina's NMS 4×4 and is designed to carry a crew of five. It provides protection against mines and improvised explosive devices according to NATO STANAG level 3a/2b and boasts impressive mobility, including:

• a maximum road speed of 150 km/h;
• ability to cross fords at a distance of 0.9 m;
• cross trenches at 0.9 m;
• climb to a height of 0.5 m obstacles;
• overcome slopes of 70% and side slopes of 40%.
