It's been a while since we've had any news about the Toxic Avenger remake. Actor Peter Dinklage has just brought some news… not very reassuring…
What is toxic avenger?
In 1984, directors Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman feature one of the most original superhero films ever created. Written by Joe Ritter, the plot features a shy, clumsy, sensitive young man, a victim of his peers, who is contaminated by radioactive products. The young man then becomes a deformed and repulsive monstrosity, but with superhuman strength. Rather than falling into vengeance and animosity, the young man transforms into an unexpected superhero: the Toxic Avenger.
Horror comedy, superhero film, social criticism, B series, The Toxic Avenger mixes styles and is a B movie much appreciated by fans of genre cinema. Given the success of the first film, The Toxic Avenger has transformed into a true saga. Three other opuses have seen the light of day respectively in 1989, 1990 and 2000. A few weeks ago, the filmmaker Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) finished a remake/reboot of the license. Led by Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood, Kevin Bacon and Jacob Tremblay, the project released its first trailer in October 2023. It even premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, where it was warmly received. However, it has been a few weeks now since we heard anything about the film…
Peter Dinklage gives us some news
Since this preview which tended to reassure us about the quality of the film, The Toxic Avenger has not given any more news. Following the release of the trailer, we thought that the release of the film was getting closer. But it would seem that we are still very far from discovering the film…
During an interview with ComicBook, Peter Dinklage, who plays the hero of the film, dropped a few words about The Toxic Avenger. And the news is not really good:
I'm not a producer on this movie. I don't know when it's coming out. I really want the movie to be released worldwide because it was a huge hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the director who also stars in The Thicket… did an incredible job. He's one of my favorite artists and a great person. So I hope he gets his moment in the sun under this toxic sun.
A statement that cools us a little bit. Legendary Pictures doesn't seem to be positioning itself on a release date for The Toxic Avenger, much to the dismay of the fans. The movie is finished, the first feedback is pretty good, so why doesn't The Toxic Avenger have a release date yet? We hope that the project won't fall into oblivion; or worse, won't be canceled like the recent Batgirl for example…
