The Top 3 characteristics that should be considered when buying a monitor for video games are named

A powerful gaming computer needs a suitable monitor – such that the picture is as detailed, smooth and clear as possible. We analyze three characteristics that are important to look at when choosing a device.

1. Diagonal size

Popular monitor models have a diagonal of 27, 34 and 49 inches. There are also 57-inch devices.

Many factors can influence the choice of monitor. We highlighted the most important:

  • The level of immersion in the game. The larger the monitor, the stronger the involvement in the process.
  • Multitasking mode. On large monitors, it is convenient to arrange computer windows in a row in order to work in several applications at the same time. For example, you can run a game on one half of the screen, and on the other – open the chat.

2. Resolution

This indicator indicates the number of pixels on the screen. The more of them, the clearer the image will be. A lot depends on the size of the monitor itself. If you compare two screens of 24 and 27 inches with the same resolution of 1920 × 1,080 pixels, the picture on a smaller screen will be more detailed.

All because of a higher density of pixels per inch (PPI – pixel per inch): the higher it is, the more elements are displayed, and therefore the picture is clearer.

3. Matrix type

Matrix – the main element of the screen on which information from the computer is displayed. There are four types:

  • VA matrices (SVA, MVA, AMVA) – provide high image quality and deep black color.
  • IPS matrices (IPS, AHVA, PLS) – wide viewing angles and excellent color rendering.
  • TN-matrices – fast response, high refresh rate, but narrow viewing angles and limited color transfer compared to VA and IPS matrices.
  • OLED matrices – high color rendering and contrast, rich blacks and the fastest response time. OLED matrices can sometimes burn out, so manufacturers equip monitors with additional protection technologies.
