The three largest mobile operators in Ukraine have launched VoLTE and VoWiFi services

The three largest mobile operators in Ukraine have launched VoLTE and VoWiFi services on their networks since December 2024 – services that work even in weak signal conditions, the National Commission for State Regulation of Electronic Communications, Radio Frequency Spectrum and Postal Services (NCEC) reported.

“VoLTE and VoWiFi services – additional benefits of 4G for subscribers Three nationwide mobile operators have introduced VoLTE and VoWiFi services on their networks. 4G (LTE) technology not only provides much higher data transfer speeds compared to 3G and 2G, but with its help you can also significantly improve the quality of voice transmission, as well as be in touch even where the signal is too weak,” the NKEC said in a Facebook message on Tuesday.

VoLTE technology allows you to make calls via the 4G network instead of the traditional 2G/3G voice network, providing the subscriber with better communication and high-quality sound transmission, the NKEC specified.

VoWiFi allows you to make a voice call over a wireless Wi-Fi network and can be used in rooms with a weak mobile network signal, for example, in basements and semi-basements or other locations where the signal from the subscriber's mobile operator does not penetrate.

From December 2024, Ukrainian 4G subscribers of all three operators who have modern smartphone models will be able to use both services, the NKEC said in a statement.

“This is a good and convenient alternative to installing a “repeater” – a device used to amplify the signal transmitted over a network or communication line. The device receives the signal, amplifies it and transmits it further, preserving the quality. In the case of mobile communication, it is used to enhance coverage. In Wi-Fi networks “Repeater” allows you to increase the signal coverage area.

Only the operator can install the device at the subscriber's location, as it can create radio interference for neighboring mobile networks.

The NKEK emphasized that subscribers can use VoLTE if their smartphone supports this function. Mostly the function is turned on automatically, but sometimes you need to turn it on separately in the settings. To connect the VoWiFi service, you need to contact your mobile operator.

As reported, the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, Kyivstar, has launched the VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) service for subscribers, which allows you to make calls via the Wi-Fi network even in places with a weak mobile network signal.
