All-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity-2024 took place on October 25, on the eve of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. The author of the text was the writer Oksana Zabuzhko, and it was read by the poet Pavlo Vyshebaba.

Public Culture in partnership with Ukrainian Radio published the text of the Radio Dictator of National Unity 2024. Read and check how many mistakes you made. p>

“The magic of the voice”

In the beginning there was a “liar”. It started the day: click! – and the shrill rumbling of the first measures “Roar and moan…”, followed by the forcefully cheerful “Kyiv speaks!” signaled that it was time to get out from under the warm blanket.

Children like to be in a group. It was nice to think that at this moment, millions of children across the country are also going to school, and their parents – to work, and we are all united by the voice from the radio. Human voice – in general, matter is magical, you can fall in love with it without even seeing the carrier. “Oksana, Oksana, I hear your voice, the wind brought me from Ukraine”, – they still dance to this tango at weddings, not suspecting that it is exile, Gulag folklore – addressed not to his beloved girlfriend, but to the legendary singer Oksana Petrusenko, whose singing during the Stalin years was broadcast by the All-Union Radio even to the Siberian bush.

And in the 1960s-1980s, when the only the permitted form of patriotism was cheering for Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine was in love with the voices of football commentators. They were recognized from half a word, in their modulations one caught, like a breath of fresh air, solidarity with “their own” and indignation at the privileges of Muscovites, who were shamelessly accused by judges in decisive matches. It's amazing what a wealth of meanings the human voice can express with just intonation! But, despite all the changes in technology, Ukraine has been on the airwaves of the planet with its own voice for a hundred years. And our voice will never be turned off or silenced by anyone.

As you know, more than half a million people have joined Radiodictator of National Unity-2023. Almost 20,000 letters were checked, and seven people became the winners.
