World number 12 Krejčíková is still waiting for her first win since early July, when she had to withdraw from the Wimbledon second round match against Russian Mirra Andrejeva due to an ankle injury. Because of this, she missed the tournament in Prague and returned to the courts only last week.
In Cincinnati, the previous year's Roland Garros winner lost in the 1st round to former world number one Viktoria Azarenkova from Belarus and at the next tournament in Ohio in Cleveland was not enough for Tauson, the 90th player in the ranking, who entered the main competition as a “lucky loser” from the qualification.
Kateřina Siniaková and Linda Fruhvirtová are still fighting to advance to the 2nd round. The US Open starts in a week.
