The technical characteristics of the innovative Meadowlands EW system, capable of jamming space satellites, have been revealed

The United States will receive a new space-based electronic warfare (EW) Meadowlands system designed to jam enemy satellite communications in the event of an armed conflict. Developed by L3Harris, the system will help protect the US military and weapons by preventing enemy access to satellite data, which will improve security in all areas of military operations, informs Intersting Engineering.

The Meadowlands system works with the use of ground radio frequency stations that block the enemy's communication channels. The installation will be mounted on trailers with radar-like antennas, which will allow to quickly change location during combat operations. In addition, the system allows both to interrupt the communication of satellites and to quickly restore it.

The growing threats from the terrorist state of Russia and China pushed the US to strengthen space defense capabilities. Today, the US uses 16 Counter Communications System (CCS) platforms, which are also capable of blocking enemy satellite communications. L3Harris' upgraded version of Meadowlands, under a $124 million contract, includes additional capabilities for greater mission automation and efficiency, smaller installations, and increased mobility.

A key feature of Meadowlands is that , that  it provides a temporary, "reverse" signal jamming that does not leave space debris. The total cost of the project is estimated at $219 million, and it is an improved version of CCS, which has been operating since 2020.
