The technical characteristics of the innovative BriteStorm EW system, which creates phantom targets, have been disclosed

The Italian company Leonardo has developed a new BriteStorm radio electronic warfare system for fighters, drones and rockets. The official presentation of the device took place at the annual conference of the Association of the US Army (AUSA) in Washington.

The system, developed by the British division of Leonardo, is capable of disabling enemy radar systems and creating phantom targets. BriteStorm weighs only 2.5 kg and includes a special antenna, receive-transmit modules and generator. The device can be mounted on any platform with a payload bay and a Humvee battery equivalent power supply.

"BriteStorm can operate as a forward deterrent force, deploying in front of main units", — noted Michael Lea, vice president of sales of EW products at Leonardo. According to him, the system uses digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) technology, which allows accurate recording and modification of enemy radar pulses.

In addition to generating false signals, BriteStorm is capable of traditional jamming by “bombarding” enemy systems with electronic noise. The system can also be mounted on drone swarms to create phantom formations of warplanes.

The new device is a successor to the successful BriteCloud system, which has already proven its effectiveness in fighting with radar systems. The introduction of BriteStorm strengthens Leonardo's position in the electronic warfare market.
