The United States will transfer high-precision guided aerial bombs JSOW to Ukraine for the first time. These weapons will significantly enhance the combat capabilities of Ukrainian F-16s and allow them to strike targets at a distance of 130 kilometers, writes Army Inform.

JSOW (AGM-154) was developed in 1986 as a replacement for the obsolete Paveway and Maverick ammunition. The bomb works according to the  principle "shoot and forget" and uses an inertial-satellite guidance system. The ammunition weighs about 500 kilograms and has a folding wing. There are two main modifications: AGM-154A with cluster ammunition and AGM-154C with a monoblock warhead for destroying fortified objects.

Ukrainian F-16s will be able to use JSOW without additional adaptation. The bombs will be used against warehouses, equipment, air defense positions, command posts and infrastructure of the Russian occupiers.

The US stopped bulk purchases of JSOW in 2015. And however, thousands of ammunition remain in warehouses. Ukraine may initially receive several dozen units, and later — several hundred.
