The Sun publisher to pay Prince Harry more than £10m in damages in data collection case

Prince Harry will receive more than £10m in compensation from Rupert Murdoch's British newspaper division News Group Newspapers, the publisher of The Sun, in a data collection case, The Guardian reports.

As we previously reported, Prince Harry has settled his lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch's British newspaper division, News Group Newspapers. The company admitted that the Duke of Sussex was the victim of serious interference in his private life by The Sun from 1996 to 2011, and also suffered from phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by the News of the World. Prince Harry has agreed to pay all damages.

The prince's lawyer, David Sherborne, called the admission of interference by The Sun and the News of the World into his client's private life a «monumental victory» They are now demanding a police and parliamentary inquiry, he said, “not just into the wrongdoing that has finally been admitted, but also into the perjury and cover-up.”

«Senior executives deliberately obstructed justice by deleting more than 30 million emails, destroying backup tapes and making false denials — all while under police investigation. They then lied repeatedly under oath to cover their tracks, both in court and at the public inquiry», — said the lawyer.

NGN, however, denies the allegations of evidence destruction.

«The allegations made publicly before the trial (and even after the settlement) that News International destroyed evidence in 2010-11 would have been the subject of serious controversy in the trial. These allegations have been and continue to be vigorously denied, — the company said in a statement.
