Expected in France on November 6, the film The Substance with Demi Moore in the cast is already causing a sensation in the United Kingdom and the United States. In Coralie Fargeat's film, Elisabeth Sparkle, played by icon Demi Moore, is on the decline. Deemed aging, she is replaced on her TV show by a younger host. A laboratory then contacts her to offer her a “substance” capable of creating the best version of herself.through Sue, played by the young Margaret Qualley (seen in Poor Creatures and revealed in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino). But obviously not everything will go as planned.
For her film, the French director took the gamble of delivering a very gory and disturbing copy, halfway between horror and science fiction, using in particular an astronomical amount of fake blood for a single scene. No less than 130,000 liters. She spoke about the conception of her project to Entertainment Weekly.
You have to take the time to center yourself and digest the film, so that new ideas and desires can take shape. I wanted to continue to shape my worlds and my stories, and do what I started doing with Revenge (his first film, editor's note): create my films in a way that no one else could. That path, ultimately, was forged through a sea of blood, as the film tackles uncomfortable topics, from self-loathing and harmful beauty standards to ageism not only Hollywood, but in culture in general.”

I've seen thousands of movies and it's very hard to shock me, but this gloriously insane movie was absolutely insane. “The Substance” isn't for the faint of heart (during my viewing, several people walked out midway through the movie), but it's an instant cult classic. You have been warned.

A quick review because it's something different.First of all, three people left in the middle of the movie, disgusted.
This movie is intentionally disgusting. It is filled with gore, ugliness and nasty “body horror” scenes that are necessary to deliver the underlying message, which is the reality of the modern world.
This movie is a powerful experience because the real horror lies beneath all the gore, blood, guts and disgust. The real horror is us.
If you have the stomach for it, go see it.”
Some have even gone so far as to throw up, as evidenced by this comment from another Internet user. “My date wouldn't let me walk him home after The Substance because we haven't seen each other long enough for him to throw up in front of me. He literally came home at home in the rain to vomit with dignity”.
