How to properly care for the Spathiphyllum?

The Spathiphyllum will look amazing. Just follow a few simple rules.

According to the portal “Dziennik Bałtycki”, the Spathiphyllum is one of those potted plants that enjoy huge popularity among Poles. It wins hearts not only with its beautiful white flowers, but also with its ease of cultivation. Although the spathiphyllum is suitable for beginner gardeners, in order for it to bloom beautifully, you should remember a few simple rules.

How to properly care for the spathiphyllum?

One of the simplest ways to make the spathiphyllum bloom and grow beautifully is to provide it with the right conditions. The plant likes bright places where it receives diffused light. A window sill facing east will work perfectly. If we do not have this option, it is best to place the plant a little further away from the window.

Remember that the spathiphyllum will not bloom in a place that is too dark. You should also take care of the right temperature. The optimal temperature for the spathiphyllum is between 18 and 20 degrees.

Spathiphyllum also likes higher air humidity. It is good if it does not drop below 50 percent. To ensure good plant hydration, it is worth placing the pot on a saucer filled with stones and water. Important! The plant cannot touch the water surface directly. Excess water leads to root rot and the death of the entire plant.

Spathiphyllum care

When growing Spathiphyllum, remember to choose the right substrate. A mixture of dry soil with sand or peat will be best. The substrate should be loose, moist and fertile. It is good if the soil is slightly acidic.

It is equally important to ensure proper drainage. This can be a layer of stones or expanded clay placed at the bottom of the pot. Although the spathiphyllum likes water, too much of it will seriously harm the plant. The best solution is to water the plant, albeit with a small amount of water.

Many people also forget to regularly wipe the spathiphyllum from dust. Dusty plants not only grow worse, but are also more susceptible to disease attacks. You should also not forget to properly fertilize the flower. The plant likes fertilizer rich in nitrogen. To provide it, it is worth using coffee grounds. Just add the grounds to the top of the substrate or make a solution of the grounds and a liter of water.
