The Sims 5: EA reveals the future of the franchise

Although released in 2014, The Sims 4 continues to be updated. Expansions, game packs, and stuff kits have been pouring in for years, a boon for big players who can offer new adventures to their Sims. However, Electronic Arts has decided to change their plans for The Sims 5, and especially the future of the franchise.

no, the sims 5 is no longer on the menu

The situation is evolving on the Sims side. Yesterday, Electronic Arts spoke with its investors and presented them with the future of The Sims. Until now, Maxis had teased us with its “Project René“, a new installment in the franchise that should be free and especially multiplayer. But Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment & Technology, finally shattered these plans, or at least in part, by revealing the future of The Sims. And for good reason, while Project René é was seen by many as a Sims 5, in particular because it directly follows The Sims 4, it is not.

Project René and The Sims 4 will both be part of the Sims universe and will coexist peacefully.

Traditionally, after each release, we replaced one version with another, starting from scratch,” said Laura Miele about the games The Sims 1 to 3. “We're going to shake up the sequel model. We're investing in a huge Sims platform.”

A speech primarily aimed at investors, which aims in particular to reassure them. In summary, EA is planning four different Sims games:

  1. The Sims 4;
  2. Project Rene;
  3. My Sims;
  4. A new mobile game codenamed “Project Stories.”

These games will all share creation tools, a unique user content gallery, a marketplace, and a social network currently in development.We will leverage the huge engagement and volumes of content to make The Sims 4 the foundation of our future growth strategy,” Miele said. “We will put at update the core technology of the product and we will be releasing fun and exciting content for many years to come.”

The future of The Sims therefore lies in The Sims 4. As a new opus, fans will therefore be able to turn to Project René, whose multiplayer component seems more established than ever. And who says free-to-play, says myriad microtransactions, battle passes and other joys of the genre. After all, reaching into your wallet, The Sims heavy gamers have been used to it for years. EA therefore does not intend to abandon The Sims 4 and even seems ready to make it its spearhead for years to come. Those who were expecting something new can therefore turn back.
