A video game as beloved as it is criticized, The Sims 4 is at the heart of a new scam. But this time, neither the players nor EA are responsible. We'll explain.
A Scam That Lacks Conviction
When it comes to money, some people can become particularly deceitful and have no scruples. We can no longer count the number of scams we could fall victim to every day if we were not on our guard: fraudulent emails, misleading messages, mysterious calls, suspicious letters… People who try to scam us are doubling their imagination to achieve their ends, for example by trying to pass themselves off as official organizations.
But there are also Sunday scammers, those who try their luck but don't want to take too much trouble. And the case we're going to tell you about in this article concerns an individual who clearly belongs to the second category. A few days ago, a scam on a real estate site was revealed by an Internet user on X, provoking reactions that were more amused than shocked from Twitter users. It must be said that the scammer did not make much effort to deceive his potential victims.
when a house from sims 4is rented in real life
“While looking for accommodation, I was shocked by this ad that my husband found. It's simply unbelievable. Tell me if you see the monumental bullshit […] in this ad?? I have already reported it to the app”. This is the outraged message published on the X account of user Lady Eira, earlier this month.
The young woman recently came across a scam as original as it is daring on the Spanish real estate site Idealista, in which the images of a home offered for rent are in reality… the photos of a virtual house on The Sims 4!And when we talk about photos, the term is not chosen at random: the scammer did not even bother to take screenshots of the game and import them onto the site. Instead, he simply took a photo of his screen. It's almost embarrassing for him.
Presented as a 41m² studio with an attractive rent of 425 euros per month, it would seem that the accommodation in question does not even exist since following the report made Idealista, the advert has simply been removed. Enough to make the scammer think twice before trying his luck again. Or not. While the situation may seem funny in this specific case, it is not impossible that this type of scam will multiply and be refined in the months and years to come. So be careful.
