Samsung Galaxy Ring the second generation may have a display

Samsung is set to release a wearable smart ring” at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 10. However, a new patent application hints that Samsung is working on another smart ring that has a different design. The patent application was filed with the US Patent Application Publication in May 2024.

Second generation Galaxy Ring may have a display

As you can see in the image above, the new smart ring (probably the second generation Galaxy Ring) will have a flat side on the outer layer, while the inner layer will be round. It is assumed that the flat side of the outer layer will be equipped with a display, while the inner side will house the sensors. One of the images also supports this assumption, which you can see below.

Additionally, the second-gen ring is rumored to have two displays, one for app icons and another to display content or information when an app icon is pressed. Both screens will function together based on user input. However, the images of the patent application do not clearly show multiple displays on the device.

The display can help you easily check some key information such as workout stats and heart rate without touching the phone. It can inform you about incoming calls and notifications.

It is also clear from the images that the second-generation ring may have a significantly larger internal volume compared to the first-generation Galaxy Ring. This hints that the next ring will have more resources (such as a larger battery capacity or additional sensors) for improved functionality.

According to the patent list, the Galaxy Ring will support Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), SPO2, PPG and ECG measurements. It will also feature a temperature sensor, an accelerometer, a fingerprint sensor and a rocker switch. Using more sensors may increase the internal volume of the device.

However, this device will still require a connection&rsquo connected to the phone and will probably use a Bluetooth connection. The device is also speculated to support Wi-Fi, NFC and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) for payments.

According to the patent, this second-generation ring will also come in multiple sizes. In South Korea, there will be 27 ring sizes, and in the US – 65 sizes. Talking about the product launch, it is still in the early stages of development and the success of the development depends on whether the company will release the product or not. We will share more information as it becomes available.
