The Olympic committees of the five Scandinavian countries supported the call to uphold the ban on Russians and Belarusians from participating in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

This is stated in a joint statement by the Olympic and Paralympic National Committees of Norway, Sweden, Iceland , Finland and Denmark, according to Fakty.com.ua.

"The situation in Ukraine has not changed. Now is not the best time to consider bringing them back”, – noted in the statement.

They also condemned the search for ways to return athletes from these two countries against the background of the ongoing full-scale war in Ukraine.

As reported by BAGNET, Recently, the International Olympic Committee allowed the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the Olympics under a neutral flag.

In Ukraine, they reacted to such a statement by the IOC and announced their readiness to boycott the 2024 Olympics.

Last week Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland have spoken out against the inclusion of athletes from Russia and Belarus who were disqualified from the competition after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Latvian Foreign Minister stated that the participation of athletes from the two countries in 2024 will be “unacceptable” and Poland's sports and tourism minister expects at least 40 countries to boycott the 2024 Olympics if Russians are allowed in, making the event itself “meaningless m".

The United Kingdom government condemned the IOC plan and said that “the world is moving away from the reality of war”.
