The Russians are preparing a big offensive in the Luhansk region, – ISW
Small force attacks undertaken by Russian troops in recent days in the southeastern sector of the front, in Zaporozhye and Donetsk regions, may be attempts to keep the Ukrainian forces stretched along the front line, and ultimately create conditions for a major offensive in the north, in the Luhansk region.
Analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) warn of this in their new report.
In recent days, the Russians have attacked small forces on a segment of the front directly south of Zaporozhye, and subsequently – near Ugledar.
According to the assumption of ISW analysts, these were distracting attacks, and the Russian army could withdraw from the Svatovo-Kremennaya line in the north of the Luhansk region in a large offensive.
This is indicated by the deployment on this lines of landing units and subunits of the 3rd motorized rifle division, as well as capsizing there (according to Ukrainian intelligence) units of the 2nd motorized rifle division and the 1st tank army from Belarus.
An array of conventional forces on front in the Lugansk region suggests that the Russian army can prepare decisive actions in this sector – supported by limited attacks elsewhere designed to distract and stretch Ukrainian troops. ” alt=”The Russians are preparing a big offensive in the Lugansk region, – ISW” />
