The season 2 of Rings of Power will feature new characters, including enemies and fearsome creatures. And one of them is well known to fans of The Lord of the Rings.
The Rings of Power: a season 2 with high stakes
We would like to be able to say that season 2 of the Rings of Power is eagerly awaited, but it is difficult to say: the first 8 episodes, released almost two years ago, were a huge disappointment.Fans of Tolkien's work were extremely critical, pointing out the many inconsistencies between the Prime Video series and the original work. But with the continuation of the adventures of Galadriel and company, Amazon intends to start off on the right foot. The trailer unveiled in July promises us a more ambitious series than ever, with action scenes that we hope will take our breath away.
Among the action scenes in question, one will feature Isildur facing a creature well known to fans of The Lord of the Rings. We can see it very quickly in the trailer above (at 2'47), but we could still doubt its true identity… until now.
this creature from the Lord of the Rings is back
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly a few days ago, Maxim Baldry, the actor who plays Isildur in The Rings of Power, teased the confrontation that would pit his character against a creature already appeared in the novel The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and its sequel, The Return of the King : Shelob.Appearing on screen only in the third feature film directed by Peter Jackson, this giant spider is the descendant of Ungoliant, an ancestral spider that would have been the ally of the Dark Lord Morgoth (formerly Melkor), according to legend. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo meets him in a cavern called the Morgul's Lair, after being trapped by Gollum wishing to have him killed to recover the Ring.
According to Maxim Baldry, the scene that will pit Isildur against Spider-Man is set to appear in the first episode of season 2 of Rings of Power: “I wake up in a cave and have to fight my way through Arachne's [lair] to get to safety, which is an indecent way to start a season!” The actor also explains that his character will evolve a lot and change his mindset, going from “a little boy to a man, [who] has to learn who to trust and who not to trust”. To find out for yourself, head over to Prime Video starting August 29th!
