The first three episodes of season 2 of The Rings of Power are available on Amazon Prime Video. An impressive start to the season that notably offers the first glimpse of Sauron's true form.
What are the Rings of Power?
In 2022, Amazon is taking the huge risk of offering a new adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. A very risky bet since Peter Jackson's trilogyis considered a true masterpiece of the seventh art. However, the platform takes the risk of producing a series derived from the universe of Tolkien, even if it means alienating the entire fan community. John D. Payne and Patrick McKayare therefore tasked with bringing this new version of Tolkien's work to the screen.
Unsurprisingly, the series is divisive, and the majority of fans are disappointed by a show that lacks scope, heroism and epic spirit. However, Amazon is not giving up since the second season of The Rings of Power has just started on the platform. The first three episodes of this season 2 are available on Amazon Prime Video.
As a reminder, The Rings of Power takes place during the Second Age of Middle-earth, a period that precedes by several thousand years the events narrated in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This era is marked by the rise of Sauron, the forging of the Rings of Power, and the final alliance between Elves and Men to fight the forces of evil.
First Look at Sauron
The first episode of this new season allows fans to discover the true form of Sauron. Indeed, through an unexpected flashback, we discover Sauron in his original form, shortly after the death of his master Morgoth. Sauron delivers a speech to a group of Orcs, trying to convince them to follow him as the new Dark Lord. However, Adar, played by Sam Hazeldine, believes that Sauron is a danger to his people. Adar is therefore at the origin of a mutiny against Sauron. An uprising which ends with the presumed death of Sauron.
Sauron, thanks to his last strength, decides to change shape, and takes the appearance of a symbiotic creature that strongly reminds us of Venom. The black mass that writhes in pain gains power and increases in size, before attacking an unfortunate human host. Finally, Sauron decides to take the form of the man we know as Halbrand. The rest is history. Halbrand meets Galadriel, whom he manipulates to gain access to the Rings of Power.
