After living her saddest year after the death of her son Aless Lequio from cancer at the age of 27 in May 2020 , Ana Obregón is gradually resuming her social and artistic life. And she does it with good news: she is the winner of the Yago de Honor 2021 award, awards dedicated to those Spanish film professionals whose careers are reviled and forgotten by the Academy and, therefore, the Goya Awards. The actress and presenter, who despite having participated in some thirty films accumulates more successes for her work on television, will receive the award on March 22 in an intimate and reduced ceremony. This event will be the first one that Obregón attends publicly after presenting the Chimes of TVE with Anne Igartiburu , an expected reunion with the audience after the fateful months he lived for the death of his son.
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for remember me I don't know if I deserve it, the directors and the teams with whom I have worked deserve it, because I have been lucky enough to be directed by the greatest of Spanish cinema ”, the actress Ana and the seven celebrated, remembering those filmmakers who counted on her for their films, such as Vicente Aranda, Fernando Colomo, Luis García Berlanga and Gonzalo Suárez, among others. Obregón has also played to make a similarity with the actress Ángela Molina, Goya of Honor this year and who in 2016 received the Yago award in the same category: “The honor of receiving this award that in other years has gone to my admired Ángela Molina is mine. ”
In her thanks, and as usual in each of her publications, Ana Obregón has also had a memory for her son Aless. “The beauty of an award for your work awarded by a jury of film critics does not serve to feed the ego, the wonderful thing is to share it with the people you love. I wish I could have shared it with you my Aless. #thanks #alessforever ”, she has written next to an old photograph in which she wears a dress emulating Gilda.
“ After working in the United States or starring in mythical series like Ana y los Siete (2002), her charisma has led her to be a familiar face, appreciated by all Spaniards. Because of his bravery and personality, the Yagos present him with their most emotional statuette, full of affection ”, they point out from the organization of the awards that they have been recognizing the works of forgotten professionals for seven years. In addition to Obregón, other winners have been Juan Diego Botto, Laura Gómez Lacueva, the choreographer Toni Espinosa or the documentary genre
The actress thus continues her progressive return to public life in which she considers different options after having received "thousands of projects", as confirmed to this newspaper in January by its representative, Susana Uribarri . Since Obregón accepted to present the TVE Campanadas on December 31, he has not stopped receiving offers to return to his habitat, which are the media. There was talk of a possible series for spring, something that from their environment they quickly denied, but what is certain is that he has already begun to collaborate with some advertising firms, as herself shows on her Instagram , always with a purpose solidary. His return to the stage is also pending with the play Falso Directo , a comedy where he shared the bill with Andoni Ferreño that paused during rehearsals just a year ago due to the deterioration of Aless's health. Although at the moment her return does not have a consolidated form, those who know her assure that work is her true lifeline. "Her son has always been the most important thing for her, now that work is unfortunately gone, he will be her refuge," Uribarri told EL PAÍS.
More focused than ever with cancer patients, the disease that took her son from her after two years of struggle, Ana Obregón dedicates several posts on her Instagram to those affected to whom she sends all her support and strength . A message he made publicly on New Years Eve when he asked for more money for cancer research. "They are the great forgotten," he stressed from the balcony of the Puerta del Sol in Madrid and has reiterated several times on Instagram . Since the death of her son, the presenter has taken refuge in social networks, where every day she shares family images with Aless Lequio, always accompanied by the hashtag #alessforever and the emoticon of a broken heart. Only last March 8 , on the occasion of Women's Day, made an exception and for the first time in almost a year he wrote a post without mentioning Aless.
They had to spend six months after the death of their only son for Ana Obregón to agree to be the cover of her head magazine, Hello! , and grant what has perhaps been his toughest interview. And he did it for a good cause, since the benefits obtained from the exclusive were destined to the Aless Lequio Foundation, the organization for cancer research that the presenter is launching, fulfilling the legacy of her son.
