The Quartiers Danses Festival, whose 18th edition was held in virtual format in the fall, has a new showcase at MAtv this winter.
In a series simply titled “Festival Quartiers Danses” in seven episodes, hosted by actor and dancer Marc Béland, 16 co-creations bringing together 16 choreographers and 17 Montreal filmmakers will be in the spotlight.
Several productions unveiled as a premiere at the last “Quartiers Danses Festival” will be presented to the public. Talented artists such as Kyra Jean Green, Véronique Giasson, Geneviève Gagné and Elon Höglund will unveil their history, their creative process and the messages that their works contain, through interviews and short films.
The viewer will also be able to observe behind the scenes and learn about the issues that closely affect actors in the dance world. For example, in the seventh and final episode, a roundtable will address the topics of systemic racism, inclusion and diversity in this industry.
“In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic will have asked choreographers and performing artists to reinvent themselves, which has given birth to this unique show, which is sure to arouse emotions. For MAtv, it is essential to allow viewers to appreciate all the richness of dance as a form of expression, especially in this period when access to cultural events is limited ”, underlined Steve Desgagné, principal director of MAtv. , in a press release.
