The Pope met Ukrainian priests of different faiths for the first time

Pope Francis met with the delegation of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, this is the first such visit of a Ukrainian interfaith association to the Vatican, according to Vatican news.

According to the UP, instead of the head of the UOC-MP Onufry, the meeting was attended by the deputy head of the department for external relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, archpriest Nikolai Danilevich.

"Thank you for this unity of yours, it means a lot to me. It's like children in a family where one is there, the other is in another place, but when mom is sick, everyone gets together,” he said, emphasizing that in this case we are not talking about Jewish, Islamic, Christian, Orthodox or Catholic Ukraine, but about “mother Ukraine”, for which everyone comes together. “This is an example in the face of the enormous superficiality we see in our culture today,” said the Pope.

The Pope assured that he was praying for Ukraine. “Don't hesitate, I'm praying for you! I carry you in my heart and implore God to have mercy on such a brave nation!” Francis emphasized.

The head of the UGCC, Svyatoslav Shevchuk, in turn, said on Facebook that during the meeting he handed over the lists of captured doctors to the Pope. “I handed over to the Holy Father the lists of captive doctors, which I received the day before from the Honorable Council of the Order of St. Panteleimon,” he said.

He also thanked the Pope for the letter to the Ukrainian people, his spiritual affinity with our martyr people, humanitarian solidarity and international support for Ukraine.

Francis assured that “he is with us in an attempt to free captives and political prisoners and stated that he prays for Ukraine every day.”

The AUCCRO includes 15 churches and religious organizations and 1 interchurch organization, including the UOC-MP.
