The United States is committed to using conventional and nuclear weapons to defend South Korea. This was stated by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin. He touched upon this topic at a press conference s by South Korean Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup in Seoul.
The United States is firmly committed to extended deterrence, which includes the use of the full range of US military capabilities, including conventional and nuclear weapons, as well as missile defense.
The head of the Pentagon condemned the actions of the DPRK, saying that in 2022 the North Korean authorities committed “an unprecedented number of provocations.” According to Austin, the United States and South Korea believe that Pyongyang will destabilize the situation in region.
