In France, the roof of the residence of the French kings caught fire — Palace of Versailles, writes Le Fagaro.
As the palace press service said, the fire started above the marble courtyard, on the roof area where repair work was being carried out.
Due to the fire, it was necessary to evacuate visitors, but firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.
«The firefighters arrived. There is no more smoke, flames, and there is no damage to the collection,” — said the palace speaker. According to him, no one was injured as a result of the incident.
The rescue service stated that the fire was quickly extinguished with “a bucket of water.”. For this purpose, 97 firefighters were involved — some of them remained in place to prevent any new fires on the roof.
The Palace of Versailles was built in the 17th century for King Louis XIV. It was the main residence of the French kings until the French Revolution and the monarchy in 1789.
