    The Ombudsman in charge, Eliana Revollar, said she expects “transparency, publicity and citizen participation” in the election of the new head of the entity, a process that is in charge of the Congress of the Republic .

    Speaking to journalists, after the Council for the Reform of the System of Justiceheld at the Government Palace, the official stressed that the selection process must be carried out within the corresponding deadlines.

    “ What does the Ombudsman expect from this new commission? Let it be a process where transparency, publicity, citizen participation are guaranteed so that a defender who has all the merits and credentials arrives at our institution”, she expressed.

    “The election of the Ombudsman must take place with the deadlines considered to guarantee compliance with the parameters”, added Revollar , who insisted that the elected incumbent must have the credentials and all legal safeguards.

    However, the person in charge of the Ombudsman of the Peopleindicated that all State powers must respect the decisions of the Judiciary and that there are various mechanisms to appeal any ruling.

    Similarly, he questioned that Parliament had decided to denounce the supernumerary judge of the Third Specialized Constitutional Court of Lima, John Paredes Salas, for ordering the election process to be suspended.

    “We do not share this position. There are mechanisms to appeal the decision and for a collegiate to be able to review the precautionary measure, and also verify whether the judge is going to withdraw from continuing with the merits of the matter or not”, he stressed.

    “This is an issue in which those who are in litigation, which are the Defensoría Workers Union as plaintiff and Congress of the Republic as defendant, they will have to verify if they continue or not”, he sentenced.
