The number of refugees increases again in Germany

The number of people who are in Germany as refugees has reached a new maximum indicator over the past decades, Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung reports with reference to the written response of the German Ministry of Internal Affairs to the member of the Bundestag from the Die Linke party Clara Bünger, informs DW.

According to the department's statistics, at the end of June 2023, Germany registered 3.26 million refugees, which is 111,000 more than at the end of 2022.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of refugees from Ukraine in Germany increased slightly in the first half of 2023 – for 29 thousand. In total, there are a little more than one million people.

The letter emphasizes that due to the continuation of the war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation, Ukrainians are still coming to Germany. At the same time, the agency notes, many of the Ukrainians who arrived are returning to their homeland.

Also, the list of refugees includes about 279,100 people who were ordered by the German authorities to leave the country. About 80 percent of them received permission to stay temporarily in Germany after being denied asylum.
