The number of billionaires in the world grew up in 2019 8.5%
The number of billionaires in the world and the total value of their States in 2019 increased significantly after reduction in the previous year, reaching record levels, according to data from research firm Wealth-X.
According to the “Census of billionaires”, published by the company on Tuesday in the world last year, there were 2825 billionaires that 221, or by 8.5% more than in 2018. The total cost of their States increased by 10.3% in annual terms and reached us $9.4 trillion.
In 2018, the number of billionaires decreased by 5.4%, and the total cost of their States declined by 7%, according to Wealth-X.
The growing number of billionaires, despite the slowdown in the global economy and the difficult geopolitical situation, including Brexit and a trade war between the US and China, due mainly to the good dynamics of financial markets, says the company.
In North America last year, there were 834 billionaire (an increase of 11.2%) with a combined size of wealth of $3.5 trillion (an increase of 13.8%). In Asia the number was 758 people (an increase of 12%) with a total fortune of $2.4 trillion (an increase of 11%).
Among the countries with the highest number of billionaires in 2019, remained the US (788 people) and China (342 people).
In new York, there were 113 billionaires with a fortune of $1 billion Followed by Hong Kong (96) and San Francisco (77 people). Beijing ranked sixth with 57 billionaires.
In the study by Wealth-X also reviewed the status of billionaires this year, given the pandemic coronavirus infection COVID-19 and its negative impact on the global economy and stock markets. According to preliminary data, many industries, including automotive, aerospace and defense industry, as a record decline in the number of billionaires and their combined fortunes in the first five months of the current year. At the same time, in areas such as insurance and health care, observed performance improvement.
