The new mine will provide batteries for 370,000 electric cars a year: where is it located

The huge Rhyolite Ridge lithium-boron mine is expected to produce about 22,340 tons of lithium carbonate in its first three years of operation .

In the US, Ioneer has received federal approval from the Bureau of Land Use to develop the Rhyolite Ridge lithium-boron deposit in Nevada, which will allow for increased lithium production for batteries in the country. Interesting Engineering portal writes about it .

According to the publication, the construction of a huge lithium-boron mine is planned to start in 2025, and the first production — in 2028. During the first three years, the company plans to extract an average of 22,340 tons of lithium carbonate. The total life of the mine will be 26 years.

The Rhyolite Ridge project is expected to provide batteries for more than 370,000 American-made electric vehicles annually and to recycle the most important battery materials in the United States.

“I can say with absolute certainty that there are few deposits in the world that will have the same impact as Rhyolite Ridge. Today's approval of Ioneer's federal permit — is the culmination of countless hours of work and a testament to the dedication of our remarkable team to the development and construction of one of the of the most sustainable mining projects in the country”, — said the executive director of Ioneer, James Callaway.

As noted in the publication, the project will be implemented in the Esmeralda district, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of the city of Dyre. As of April 2020, the mineral reserves of the Rhyolite Ridge lithium-boron project were estimated at 60.2 million tons: 1,797 parts per million lithium and 15,418 parts per million boron.
